The first step to making the music video was picking a song, we had loads of song choices but when it came to thinking of ideas or narratives the songs were not good choices.Another reason why some of these songs weren't chosen was because they were to well known for example The prodigy - Invaders Must Die .The song is great but in order to make the video ,it would have to be up to the standards of prodigy videos which are extreme .The good thing about our song choices is that we have a mixture of genres of music meaning all different style videos could have been made so we wasn't set on one choice at the beginning

The song Sarah and I chose was "Licence To Dance" by a friend John Youseman .The reason we picked this song was because we liked the style of the song and we wouldn't need copy right for the song because he is a friend.We could also use the band members for the video , which would be a good thing because they know how to perform their own songs as a group.
The music video i have chosen to analyse is "Sticks and Stones" by Jamie T.To see the video click on the link "sticks and stone " i am going to write about things like mise en scene , location,lyrics,camera shots or angle and sound .

I like how it tells a short story of his life as he goes to visit one of his old friends. Basically, is Jamie (Or a character) recounting his past and how times were better/worse/same. Later he realises that he misses the old times a lot more than he thought he would.
The first few seconds of the video we see the mise en scene of Jamie T wearing casual clothes dressing like a hooligan , next to him is a clown with a smoke bomb setting off ,this could link to the fact in the video is about Jamie T youth days where they act like clowns.The colour tone of the video is grey , this creates the effect of memories (reflection on the past ).The shot is a mid shot which shows half their bodies and shows us the posture of Jamie T ( very shrugged ) which conveys an attitude.
Straight after this clip you see houses in black and white tone being filmed in black and white tone .This is black and white again because it creates the effect of a memory .It has been filmed using a track shot to make the viewer see that the memory if Jamie Ts on a train which is moving .This is also a point of view shot showing Jamie Ts perspective .
At 28 seconds the viewer can see Jamie T running at a train station which shows the background of the song, where him and his friends use to hang about "Wimbledon" and where he comes from.While he is running the lyrics describe what him and his friends were like "I take a train again away from shame and blame a city pained to see"this shows that he is ashamed of how him and his friends acted while hanging around in London. "I was a ten a day, how'd you say, little shit, white lightning, heightening all my courage, quick wit. He describes his personality "little shit" shows stereotype of underage drinking "white lightening" which is a cheap drink.He also describes how alcohol effected him "heightening all my courage" , i believe this is a reflection of modern society becuse alcohol makes you believe your invincible .This shot is also filmed used a tracking shot to show Jamie T has missed the train .
The lyrics at this point is Jamie T talking about the style of clothes him and his friends wore, "wallabies" being a type of shoe and "buttoned shirts" , while Jamie says buttoned shirts he does the action in the photo on the right.The camera shot is a mid shot so the viewer can see jamies Ts actions . This shot is a medium close up showing the viewer expressions from the artist.
The photo at the top left in 0:46 second, you can see the clown drinking a pint of beer and Jamie T smoking either a roll up or a joint.The grey tone is only on Jamie T , the clown is still in colour i think this suggests that the clown( Jamie Ts friend) is still the same as he was in his youth.The photo on the top right links to the lyrics you see a close up of the clown, we see him acting silly (drunk from beer) .The lyrics say "as soon as i see the dust settle,he's out on the town to find trouble" meaning once he is drunk he just looks for trouble.
This is a close up on a Mc donalds cup,reflecting period of the aritist (teenage days) .The second picture shows that same cup getting thrown at Jamie T .The shot is a long shot to show Jamie T dodging the drink and setting location which refers to the lyrics "going to be stuck in Hampton wick ".The lyrics also show the drink is thrown at him by his mates "with the boys across the platform shouting light weight prick ! "
This close up reveals the attitude of Jamie T and his friends by showing the viewer first the tattoo (lighting bolt) which could resemble a hyper personality and second the hand gesture (swearing) showing an adolescent behavior.
The three clips above are cut aways from different points of the video.The first picture is a mid shot showing Jamie T from the knee upwards, the focus is deep focus taking the can out fo focus.
This shot in a wide mid shot, the viewer sees beer all over the glass representing vandalism .The body language shows us close bonds between the guys with them putting arms around each other.
I have decided to choose to do a music video for my coursework.The coursework will consist of the following .
1. A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with two of the following three options:
a website homepage for the band;
a cover for its release as part of the digipak (CD/DVD package)
a magazine advertisement for the digipak (CD/DVD package).
I chose to do a music video for my A2 because i believe i will be able to have the best result in doing one.I believe this because out of the three options you get to choose from i will enjoy making a music video the most. The music video will be good to test my media skills in Editing,filming,directing,producing and being creative in making narratives (if chosen to do).By the end of this course i should have developed these skills to my best capability.
