Copy right

What is Copyright?

Copyright protects original literary, dramatic, musical and artistic works. It allows an original work to be considered a property that is owned by somebody. The framework for Copyright Law is the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 ('the Act').

When does Copyright begin?

In music, copyright begins automatically once a piece of music is created, and documented or recorded (eg. on video, tape or CD or simply writing down the notation of a score).

How long does Copyright last?

In the UK, copyright generally lasts for a period of 70 years from the end of the calendar year in which the author dies.

Luckily the song we are using does no require copyright because the bands song we're using is not copyrighted and they are happy for us to use their material. This makes the process of creating a video easier because if you do copyright infringe in the music industry you personally can get fined a large sum.

For Example

A & M Records vs. Napster

The quintessential case against peer-to-peer filing sharing, it sparked debate over when sharing stops and stealing starts, and if sites that provide the platform can be held liable under copyright laws.

Napster launched in 1999, and provided a hub where users could download songs night and day from all over the world. Napster was sued by a number of major record labels in a joint copyright infringement lawsuit.

Teddy Picker , Artic Monkeys

The song refers to the popularity of celebrities. A 'teddy picker' is Northern slang for a crane machine, a popular machine at carnivals where prizes, particularly stuffed animals, are picked by a mechanical crane. The song equates a person getting noticed as a celebrity with a prize being picked up by a crane-a result of luck. The music is very upbeat with the mise en scene conveying humour throughout about the hate for fame hungry people aka teddy pickers.

The first 20 seconds the viewer hears diegetic sound of the band , music engineer speaking and the group plugin in their equipment e.g feedback from a guitar. On the left is a medium longshot of the band being relaxed having a laugh.Lighting used in ambient lighting , high angle showing like a window for viewer to create the effect that their standing there.

On the left is a close up of an alligator head which matches the lead singers alligator skinned speaker. The close up shows him on top of the speaker ,this can be related to the song as in alligator speaker projects the viscous truth about the fame hungry society of today .The bottom left picture is a high angle medium shot of equipment being seen under a pan movement yet again giving the viewer a window of the set.

After 37 seconds of establishing the location and tone (laid back and humour) , the camera cuts to a close up of a sound engineer setting the sound levels and after hearing "we're ready look " from one of the band members the engineer presses the record button , which then starts the song .

The first shot establishing the song is a mid shot of the drummer starting the beat of the song, the viewers eye sight is in line with him showing direct focus.

After we see the quick cuts of the drummer starting the song the camera pans right towards Alex Zane which shows him then performing the music with cuts changing angles and close ups on detail like his instrument or expression.

Below on the left is a cut of one of the close ups showing the lead singer playing the riffs which adds to the performance and makes the song flow.

The slide above we see a low angle mid shot of the lead singer portraying humor with a dance move to making a fool of himself, the could relate to the message of fame hungry people doing what they are told for fame and wealth. The slide below is a close up , which shows the expression to enhance the message from the performance " desperation to be seen " meaning the wannabe celebs will do anything.

To create the effect of amplitude to the base guitar the camera shows two quick cuts of the recording studios mixing desk equipment , this goes well with the music because the top left slide goes with beat and the top right slide shows the sound levels getting risen , which

Pitch 2

The Second pitch we presented to our teacher was to film our video in a car park, we realised after speaking to Mrs Mc Cluckie that this was not a smart idea. First being we would need permission to film in the premises, then if we need artificial light we would have no plugs to use , unless we had a generator which we don't .So we thought of places to film where it was one location and had all the requirements we needed.

Requirements:

- Relates the the band.
- Has a source of power.
- Easy to light
-Good for filming purposes (where people don't interfere)

Ideas

VIDEOS WE LIKE

The videos below are bands we like and videos showing what we want to achieve with out music video.

To see this video click here

This video is Artic Monkeys "i bet you look good on the dance floor " .The thing what i like about this video is the mood the band portray , which is very laid back , they perform the song well . Another thing i like is the use of camera shots , we see lots of close ups on the band and instruments to emphasise the sounds being created.I think the use of the lighting is effective using spotlights on the band and different colour lighting for the background to highlight each other.

This video is Bloc party,I enjoyed watching this video because i felt the video flowed making it enjoyable to watch. This was achieved with quick cuts to match the music. The filming the video in black and white is effective because they have added in effects (see below) .

This effect is effective because it centers the band members and by using colour highlights them .

Locations

The second location idea a underground car park.We liked this idea because it was very remote an thought it be good setting to film in .

The car park would be a good setting because you can use the spotlights and it would be remote at certain times

making it easy to film .

Locations

At this current point our group are deciding locations to film at. This is important because a location will set the mood, genre and image to the band.

The first location idea was to use an actual recording studio to film in. I searched on the internet for affordable premises to rent out and came across resident studios .I chose this location because the band could perform the track as if they're recording it.The premises would have state or the art equipment to use and provide the bands image. The recording studio is where all the bands hard work and time going into , so i thought use this location to reflect this and let them perform their song.
